SAC Challenge 2014 - Week 3 - Getting out of the box

Our challenge for week 3 was to think outside the box - in other words, explore new ways of doing things and come up with something that you normally wouldn't do. It's a great exercise, especially since I've been kind of stuck lately. I end up using the same chords and similar patterns. I've also found that I tend to get discouraged easily and just end up using lyrics I'm not happy with. The problem with that is that I end up with a bunch of songs that sound the same and that I don't want to perform live because I don't 'feel' them....ya know? haha

So, I ended up doing things a bit differently this week. I recorded a guitar riff and essentially constructed a pattern on the computer. I listened to it over and over again until I got an idea for lyrics. It's not a final song, but I actually really enjoyed the process and I definitely created something completely different! Listen to it below!

Let me know what you think!

On to week 4!

About the song:

Barricades

There's no more to say, it's getting hard to speak through the barricades
What more can I do, it's getting hard to breathe they raised the stakes...on me and you

We've got nothing to lose, we've been through it all, your lies and your abuse
We don't give a damn no more, we will fight for the right to be on our own

ahhhh
ahhhh

Watch out now
Better watch your back
Better not stand in our way
Watch out now
When the sky turns grey
You're just another prey

Truth be told, never did wish harm upon anyone
But what you've done, turned every piece of flesh into stone

Watch out now
Better watch your back
Better not stand in our way
Watch out now
When the sky turns grey
You're just another prey

ahhh
ahhh

There's no more to say, it's getting hard to speak through the barricades
What can I do, it's getting hard to breathe they raised the stakes...on me and you
